We have been reading Mo Willems' stories this week and having a great time celebrating his books! Here is a wonderful website that your child may wish to visit...
A Special Performance
Today Team Toru went into the hall with the rest of Team 2 and 3. We were invited to watch the Orchestra, the Choir and the Ukelele groups perform, led by Mrs Pearse. Team Toru were super excited to watch these amazing performers. When we got back to class we talked about all of the instruments we were going to play when we got a little older!
Well done to all of the performers and Mrs Pearse today. YOU GUYS ROCKED!

Cape Kidnappers
We had the best time at Cape Kidnappers today. Everyone had a wonderful adventure. We loved sitting on the trailers behind the tractor, going into the sea and going over rocks. Walking up to the gannets was hard work, but once we got there, we saw lots of beautiful gannets nesting. They are huge birds :-) Team Toru will never forget this exciting adventure!
Thank you so so much to all of those wonderful whanau that came along with us today and made our time so special!
You are AWESOME!!!!

Problem Solving
Today Mrs Gempton gave us a mathematical problem that we had to work out...
There are 23 people at a cafe. The tables sit either 5 or 2 people. Each table is full. There are 7 tables.
How many tables of 5 and 2 were there?
We worked with our learning buddies...
Check out our thinking...

Our Thinking
So
what do we know?
People are not looking after the
ocean. Stevie-Lee
They are throwing rubbish all around
everywhere. Remz
Animals are dying because they are
eating rubbish. Jaz
Turtles can die by plastic because
they think it is jellyfish. Vintcent
People are leaving bags behind and
are not putting them in the rubbish.
Jack
If this carries on, people won’t be
able to go fishing. Dylan
They drop their rubbish when they go
to the beach. Jaziah
Rubbish flies around and then it goes
down the drains and into the river. The
river goes to the beach and then the sea and out to the ocean. Jade
Rubbish is floating into the
sea. Brayden
It’s safe to eat fish now. But if we keep doing what we are doing, the
fish will die. Vintcent
There will be no healthy food to
eat. Hemi
What
do we want to know?
Why do people not pick up the rubbish
when they see it? Dylan
What if the animals have no teeth,
how do they eat the rubbish? Sammy
What happens if the animals eat the
rubbish, but they don’t die? What
happens to them? Ali
Why do the turtles think plastic is
jellyfish? Dylan
Why are people leaving their rubbish
on the beaches and everywhere else? Jaz
If people know about it, why don’t
people go to the ocean and get the turtles that are very sick and help them
live? Ali
How does the rubbish get past the
waves? Dechlan
Where does the rubbish go if it doesn’t
go to the ocean? Dylan
Why do people put rubbish on the
ground if they know it is bad for animals and they can die? Ali
Why are the turtles not smart enough
so that they don’t eat plastic? Vintcent
Some wonderful wonderful thinking happening in Team Toru... some very clever questions too!

That Pesky Rat
We read "That Pesky Rat" by Lauren Child, which is the story of a rat that really wanted to be a pet. Mrs Gempton set the task of creating a jumper for the rat... we had a class vote and these were our top 3!
Which one is your favourite?

We are in the Pink!
Welcome back for Term 4! Team Toru are going to have a PINK MILK term! We are learning about Lauren Child. She is an author and is probably most well known for her Charlie and Lola stories. Lola loves loves loves pink milk! This morning we drank some pink milk and then talked about how we could have a pink milk term... our favourite and our best! Each of us thought of some goals we could work towards this term...
