Last week the Cat in the Hat's Reading Group read a story about making clay faces. We decided that we would have a go at this activity, but use play dough instead... check out our wonderful faces that we made :-)

That Pesky Rat
We read "That Pesky Rat" by Lauren Child, which is the story of a rat that really wanted to be a pet. Mrs Gempton set the task of creating a jumper for the rat... we had a class vote and these were our top 3!

Using our Thinking Muscles
Today we have collected some data around the Olympic Games. In groups, we worked through a series of questions around the Olympic Games and recorded our answers using tally marks. Tomorrow we will use this information to help us graph the results.
At Reading time the Cat in the Hats and Grinches Reading Groups, read a story about spiders. We read silently and then wrote down one fact we had not known before to share with the group. After completing a response activity, we then wrote down some wonderings. Tomorrow, we are going to research our questions and see if we can find the answers.

Thursday's Top Learning
Today we had an awesome day of learning in Team Toru. It started before school! Children were busy writing words and numbers on whiteboards before the bell had even rung! AWESOME LEARNING ATTITUDES TAMARIKI! We measured our chains today using our bee rulers... we discovered some interesting challenges... what to do when we run out of ruler, how do we measure bits of bees... lots to talk about and learn! Team Toru have also become awesome silent readers. We enjoy sitting at our tables reading quietly to ourselves! Mrs Gempton is so proud of your efforts Team Toru! What a fantastic start to Term 2!

The Cat in the Hats share a Play
On Thursday, the Cat in the Hat Reading Group shared a play with the class. It was very funny! The play was called "Invisible" and needed five people to play the parts. The group got to dress up if they wanted to.
We were all very impressed with the way they spoke to an audience and used different voices.

Mr Men Shape Quiz

Whisper Phones
On Wednesday Team Toru had a wonderful surprise :-) We were given a special present from Mr and Mrs Perry. They had made us some whisper phones for our Reading...
After Reading with Mrs Gempton, we can use our whisper phones to read our story again. It is a great way to really hear how we read.

A great start to Week 2
Team Toru had an awesome start to Week 2 of Term 3. As part of our hotspot for Maths this morning, we thought of different ways to write a number. We did the number ten today... we wrote the numeral, the number before and after, what it looks like on a tens frame, how we could show it using dice and we also wrote different number sentences for 10. Children had 5 + 5, 6 + 4, 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 1, 20 - 10, 3 + 3 + 4... Great thinking Team Toru!
At Reading time, there were two Dr Seuss jigsaws to have a go at. Look at these great problem solvers!
