Shape Find

Today we started our focus on 2D and 3D shapes.  First we sorted shapes into groups, naming each of these.  We then introduced the idea of sides and corners... also some new shape names like trapezium and rhombus!  Using magazines, we then went on a shape hunt, looking for pictures of shapes.  We had difficulty finding diamonds and hexagons, but found lots of ovals, circles, squares, rectangles and triangles!

Maths learning in Team Toru

We have had another busy week in Team Toru.  This week we have been awesome Maths whizzes... beating Mrs G in our 5+ challenge and mastering several new games.

Red Group have been learning to add in tens, Yellow group having been counting on from the highest number and Violet group have been expanding numbers to 1000.  Go Team Toru Tamariki!!

A Very Busy Week 7 :-)

Wow... where has the week gone?  Team Toru have been super busy with their learning this week.  We have been looking at doubles to 20 as a knowledge focus for Maths, including a really cool Doubles Rap that we have been singing together.  At Writing time we have been retelling "The Three Little Pigs", as well as learning about punctuation. During Reading time we have used our imagination to create a house for a fourth little pig, as well as describing the wolf using adjectives.  And today Team Toru, along with Team Wha, got to experiment with Zentangle designs...
Whew!  A very busy time for us...

Matariki Disco

Tonight we had the school disco in our hall.  The theme was Matariki and there were definitely lots of stars there tonight!  We boogied on down to all sorts of great music, wearing our sparkly best!  Check out these wonderful, happy kiddlies!!

Matariki Fun

This afternoon, Team Toru and Room 11 got together to celebrate Matariki with our whanau.  We shared a story about Matariki, did the Matariki Macarena and then created kites as part of our celebrations.  It was an awesome afternoon.  Thank you to all of those wonderful whanau who came along to share in our special time.  We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did :-)

Tuakana Teina - Sharing our Writing

Today Team Toru tamariki were able to share their writing with their Tuakana Teina buddies.  Team Toru have spent a long time retelling their Fairy Tales, so we really enjoyed sharing our super writing with an audience.
