Special CRAZY CLOWN Visitors!

Team Toru had the most awesome surprise today at ALPs time.  Two very funny clowns in a CRAZY CAR came to visit us... they were ringing a bell and wearing colourful wigs.  Their car was very unusual!!!  It was a balloon car and it goes super fast according to Mrs Pearse!  Check out these fabulous photos...

After getting up close to the car we decided to write our stories about our special visitors!  Here are just some of the stories written by Team Toru authors!

Learning Numbers using Ten Frames

Team Toru have been counting forwards and backwards to 20 as well as learning what numbers look like on a tens frame.  Here are two You Tube clips that might help at home - one showing the numbers on the tens frame and the other testing how fast they can do it!

Our Assembly Item

Today was an exciting day for Team Toru.  We had the opportunity to share our Assembly item with the rest of the school and our whanau.  We shared a slideshow as well as a special song called "This Little Light of Mine."
Here are some photos of us shining like stars, and the 'You Tube' link to the song we sang :-) Well done Team Toru - Mrs Gempton is very very proud of you all!  Ka mau te wehi!

Number Focus of the Week

Today we looked at the number 5 and the many different ways it can be written, as well as what number comes before and after.

Rapanga

On Friday we worked with Team Wha to create our Rapanga (weaving).  We used two different colours of paper to weave - this was quite tricky!
Didn't we do well!!

What a wonderful way to end the week!

Today was our first biking session together as Team Toru.  We had an awesome time!  Team Toru are super bike riders!  They whizzed around the bike track!  Awesome effort tamariki!
Thank you to Alan and Julia too who helped out this afternoon - you were amazing!

Whose name has the letter "i" in it?

Today we focused on 'i' for our phonics.  We learnt our Jolly Phonics Song, "Ink on Inky i i i...".  After our phonics session we looked at our names and made a quick chart using tally marks to see who had an i in their names... as you can see, it was a popular letter!

Our Number Focus

Today we started our weekly number focus.  This involved us looking at how the number looks as a numeral and a word, naming the number before and after, finding what it looks like on a tens frame and with our hands and also how we would write it as a tally.  Each week we will discover and talk about a new number...

Team Toru's First Week for 2015

Welcome back to all tamariki and whanau for 2015!

Team Toru has had an amazing first week back at school.   We have had a wonderful time getting to know each other and discovering our classroom.
We have also been learning lots and lots of new things like...
  • how to get ready for the start of our school day
  • how to use all of our reading and maths games
  • learning about giving five when we are on the mat
  • making sure that we are responsible for our belongings in the cloakbay and in the classroom
We have also been learning how - 'You Matter'.  That is, that we are all a taonga (treasure) in our classroom.  We are unique and special, each and everyone of us!  HOW AWESOME!
These are just a few of the wonderful areas of learning we have been working on during our first week back to school.
