Awesome Thursday Learning

We had a special visitor in our classroom today.  Sophie brought her dinosaur to visit.  His name is Steve.   Steve enjoyed hanging out with Team Toru and Dino today!

The Yellow Maths group are learning to add on from the highest number and count back when they subtract.  Here we are at our Whiteboard table with some of our learning!

At Reading time today, we got into pairs and went on a 'speech mark' hunt using arrow stickies.

Dinosaurs

We are starting to find out more about Dinosaurs.  To begin with though, we did a Y Chart and wrote down all of the things we thought we knew about dinosaurs...

Today for Writing we watched an awesome You Tube clip about Pterodactyls.  We then labelled a Pterodactyl in our books.  Tomorrow we are going to write about what we have found out about these amazing creatures!!  Here is the clip we watched...

Remembering ANZAC Day

Today Team Toru learnt some more about ANZAC day and what it means to us as New Zealanders.
We listened to some special ANZAC songs, read an ANZAC poem, wrote a story about our learning, chomped through an ANZAC biscuit and created a poppy for a special wreath to put up in our classroom.
The seniors set up a remembrance area outside with crosses representing soldiers who have died in the war.  There were 30 crosses altogether.

Awesome Reading time today

Team Toru were involved in some fabulous learning today at Reading time.  We had Sunshine Classics on our ipads, Starfall alphabet on the laptops, whiteboard writing, language games, I-spy Books and Free Writing happening.
Check out some super whiteboard writers in Team Toru!

Kapa Haka

Today Team Toru started Kapa Haka with Whaea Erina.  All of the Junior team were in the hall and learnt a new waiata (song).
We can't wait to learn more!

ANZAC Day

Over the last three days we have been talking about ANZAC day.  Today Ella brought along a photo of her Great-Great-Great Grandad who fought in the war.  She also shared a postcard he wrote from 1916... very special!

Awesome Effort with our Holiday Diaries

Today Team Toru shared their holiday diaries with each other.  We worked in small groups and then swapped, so that we could all enjoy each others work.

Check out these wonderful efforts!

Ako Time

On Tuesday afternoon Team Toru, along with Team Tahi, Team Rua and Team Wha, had Ako time.  This is a special time where we get to work alongside all of the children across the four classes, choosing our own activities.  We have the opportunity to create, discover, invent, co-operate, share, move... just to name a few skills!  Very exciting for our tamariki.  Check out some of our photos from the afternoon :-)

Welcome Back for Term 2

Team Toru had a wonderful first day back for the new term.  When the children arrived this morning they found a large display in the cloakbay...

Walking into class each child found a goodie bag on their tables...

I wonder what we are learning about this term?
