Daffodil Day

Today is Daffodil Day.  We celebrated at Mahora by wearing yellow and bringing along a gold coin to throw into our school fountain.  The money will be collected in and then donated to the Cancer Society.  Check out Team Toru throwing in their coins.

Using our Thinking Muscles

Today we have collected some data around the Olympic Games.  In groups, we worked through a series of questions around the Olympic Games and recorded our answers using tally marks.  Tomorrow we will use this information to help us graph the results.

At Reading time the Cat in the Hats and Grinches Reading Groups,  read a story about spiders.  We read silently and then wrote down one fact we had not known before to share with the group.  After completing a response activity, we then wrote down some wonderings.  Tomorrow, we are going to research our questions and see if we can find the answers.

Tuakana Teina with Room 11

This afternoon Team Toru got together with our Tuakana Teina buddies Room 11, to do our Cross Country training and to share some of our learning.  We enjoyed showing Room 11 how awesome we have become in our Writing and Reading.  Thanks for sharing our afternoon with us Mrs McKenzie and Room 11 :-)

Statistics Fun

We had so much fun today rolling our Superhero dice.  Once we had rolled it, we tallied how many times each character appeared.  Using that information we created bar graphs so that we could present our findings.  Great stuff Team Toru!

Captain Cash-tastic!

We had a visit from Captain Cash-tastic on Thursday.  He came in to share with us some important information about money.  We learnt about the different amounts we have and what they look like. We also learnt about how to use the money we earn - spend some, save some and share some. Captain Cash-tastic was very funny - he made silly faces and had us laughing heaps and heaps.  Thanks Captain Cash-tastic for coming in and sharing such important information :-)

Our Second Visit to the Mobile Classroom

Today Team Toru visited Anne and Harold again in the mobile classroom.  We learnt what it meant to be part of a team.  It is important to use kind words, to share and help others, to work together, and sometimes it means not doing things the way you want to do them.  Harold came out and we sang a song about being a friend.  Anne turned the stars on in the mobile classroom and the blue light, which was awesome!  Mrs Gempton really enjoyed that part!!!  Thank you so much to Anne and Harold for coming to our school and letting us visit them in their cool classroom.  We have learnt so much about what it means to stay healthy and to live a healthy life, as well as how to work together in a team :-)
